This week I'm featuring the Goosebumps series by R. L. Stine. I read so many of these books when I was young. Here are a few titles that I remember reading.
My mom tried to discourage me from reading these, (probably because she was sick of me running out of my room when I read the scary parts) but I kept reading them anyway. I can't say I am the better for having read them, but they were certainly fun.
Did you read Goosebumps or any other scary books?

I love that you're featuring Goosebumps. I used to read both these and his Fear Street novels. I remember that a lot of the other guys in the neighborhood (and some of the girls, too) had shelves and shelves full of these books and we'd borrow from each other.

I didn't read the Goosebumps. I did read Point Horror and Fear Street though. I loved Fear Street. I don't think I gained anything from them either but I devoured them. It irritated me that I read them faster than the library got in new ones.
ReplyDeleteI've seen these books on several "must read" lists. I keep promising myself that I'll test the waters... Would you recommend starting any where or just dive in? Also, how old do my kids have to be before we could read them together?
ReplyDeleteTwo Bibliomaniacs: You can really start anywhere and jump around, but Welcome to the Dead House is the first book so it's a good place to start. I would recommend reading this with your kids when they're 8 or 9; it really depends on their reading level and, most importantly, whether you think they're ready for these scary tales. I really wouldn't do it any earlier than that. I remember being really afraid! Of course, I was a scardy-cat, so...
