Books I Want to Re-Read

**I originally used this topic as my freebie, but alas, it's this week's topic as well! I decided to re-post it with a few edits.**

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

There are books that you love, and may even be your favorite, but you know re-reading them won't be the same. And then there are those books that you know will only be better the second time around. These are some of those books:

1. People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks
2. The Help by Kathryn Stockett
3. Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese
4. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer (Want to read this? Enter my giveaway to win a previously read copy!)
5. The Red Tent by Anita Diamant
6. The Harry Potter Series by J. K. Rowling
7. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
8. The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis
9. The Hunger Games Series  by Suzanne Collins
10. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

All of these books have great plots, but I think the reason I really want to re-read them is because I miss the characters.

Which books do you want to read over and over again?

Birthday Month Giveaways!

UPDATE: Thanks to all of you who entered my giveaway! I promised I would choose and end date soon, and since there have been many entries I will choose a winner this Saturday at 12:00 PM noon, Eastern time. Until then, you still have time to enter!

********************************************************************************

It has been a while since I had my first giveaway for a signed copy of Finny by Justin Kramon.

I think another giveaway is well overdue, as I have several things to celebrate.

The first is The Kindled Scholar reaching 100 followers. Hooray!
September is also my birthday month, so I want to celebrate by giving you the opportunity to read some of my favorites. I recently made a trip to the semi-annual library sale and got a bit carried away when I was looking for prizes.

Rather than having one big giveaway, I wanted to spread the wealth a little more and have multiple prizes. I'll be posting these books up over the next several weeks. They are not brand new, but they are in great condition.

Here's the first book up for grabs!

I absolutely adored this book. See here for my review.

Fill out the form below to enter the giveaway. A winner will be chosen randomly. The only rule is that you must be a follower of The Kindled Scholar on Blogger to enter. And just for fun, please answer the book question on the form. Do keep in mind that the giveaway is for a gently used copy. Good luck!

Reading Recap

Hello lovely bookworms! It's been a while since I've done a recap of what I've read. Sheila at Book Journey hosts a meme where you can share what you're reading and see what other bloggers are reading as well.

Here's what I've read during the past few weeks:

Here's what I'm reading now:

Here's what's up next:

What are you all reading? Have you read any of the books in this post? If you want to see more of what I've read or plan to read, be sure to visit my Goodreads profile. While you're here, do check out my current giveaway to win one of my favorite titles!

Persepective

Head over to Ellie's blog on Curiosity Killed the Bookworm to take a look at the guest post I did while she was away.

One of the great things about reading is gaining new perspectives. Click here to read the full post and see just what I mean. While you're there, don't forget to follow Ellie's blog!

Hello from Hogsmeade!

We went to Universal Studios -Islands of Adventure on my birthday.

Which also means... Harry Potter World!

It was everything I had hoped and more. We got our wands at Ollivander's.

Mine was made of reed, 12 inches. Only the wandmaker knows the core, but I have a feeling it's unicorn hair.

And of course...

butterbeer

Butterbeer is just as yummy as you imagined. There's no alcohol in it, just good butterscotch creaminess.

I'll be back soon!

Hello from the happiest place on earth!

I won't be posting any in-depth blog posts anytime soon because I'll be here all week:

Magic Kingdom Ferry

But don't fret! I'll share updates about our trip and post photos when I can. For those of you that have been here, any tips? Any places I absolutely shouldn't miss?

See you all soon!

All good things must come to an end.

This weekend was the first real getaway Blair and I have had since last Christmas. It felt so good to get out of the city and spend a few days surrounded by nature.

This place has plenty of charm.

Trips to the South always mean lots and lots of food. My favorite things are turnip greens doused with vinegar and good, ol' fashioned sweet tea.

We also got to spend time with our nephew, Remy. He is so precious, but boy can he tire us out! Isn't he a handsome fella?

Spending time with family is the best. We had a great weekend, but now it's time to pack up and make our way back to Northern Virginia. With all its traffic, I still love it. I can't wait to get to home, sweet home.

Tell me about your trip and share some pictures!

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

I hope you all have a great Labor Day weekend!

I'm enjoying it somewhere in North Carolina.

Sometimes it's great to get away from it all and gain a new perspective.

Where are you all spending the holiday? Be safe!

A Life Post: My New Planner

I recently received my Erin Condren Life Planner in the mail, and I have been loving it! There are many designs to choose from, but when I saw the one called our favorite things, I just had to have it. It has mine and Blair's name on it so it's technically for both of us. You can only imagine how thrilled he was when I showed it to him. While I was jumping up and down and squealing about how cute it was, he goes, "cool", and then gives me a weird look that translates into "it's just a planner!"

But let me tell you, it's not JUST a planner. It is THE planner. I find myself wanting to plan things just so I can write in it. I'm a loser, I know, but at least I have a cute, personalized planner.

20110820-141903

It is pretty big, but I actually don't mind the size. I like having space to write plenty of details. It also has a goals and to-do list for every week. It has wonderful, inspiring quotes for every month. There are also stickers that you can use for birthdays, parties, and even hair appointments! I like to color code, so I have 5 different colored pens that I use (no joke) plus a highlighter!

If you like to be organized, then this is the planner for you. If you think your life could use a little more structure and organization, then this planner will push you into that direction. Go get your own! It's absolutely worth it. I don't think I'll ever have a different planner from now on.

I also recommend the "our favorite things" design, because it is very personal and glimpsing it is enough to put a smile on your face.

I don't think they'll mind if I give you a code for $10 off your purchase -WELCOME10

If you get one, let me know which design you chose. My second choice would have been the one with this quote by Henry David Thoreau - Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined.

So inspiring, yes?

Love and (a book) light,

~Dorothy
